Almost August, and summer is flying by here at Briarpatch Pediatrics! We hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine and summer fun (while using plenty of sunscreen, of course!) Even though we'd love to relax at the beach - after all, this is Cape Cod - we're more than happy to have our doors open to help with the bumps, bruises, bug bites, and all the other not-so-fun stuff that comes with the warm weather. Its been an eventful summer for Briarpatch, and with another month left to go we are excited to see what's to come. Keep reading for an update on what's happened so far at Briarpatch!
Saying Goodbye and Wishing Great Luck to Dr. Riemer
Over the past two years, Dr. Jeretta Riemer has been an invaluable addition to the Briarpatch Pediatrics' team, and a dedicated provider for our patients. As of June 2018, Dr. Riemer has relocated to Boston for a new role in pediatric medicine where she will no doubt continue to stand out as the outstanding doctor she is. Although its sad for the patients, families, and staff here at Briarpatch Pediatrics to see her go, we are happy for Dr. Riemer's new found position and wish her much success in her new job and home!
Dr. Norenberg and Daughter, Addy, Compete in Best Buddies Run
On June 2, Dr. Norenberg and his daughter, Addy, took part in the 2018 Best Buddies Challenge, biking to Hyannis Port in their seventh consecutive Best Buddies event. The Best Buddies Run is a challenging bike, run, or walk fundraising event benefiting Best Buddies International. Best Buddies is a non-profit organization founded by Anthony Kennedy Shriver in 1989, dedicated to creating opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). On the subject of the Best Buddies Run, Dr. Norenberg wrote, "This will be our seventh consecutive ride to support Best Buddies! Some rides have been too cold and wet, others have been far too hot with way too much yellow pollen getting in our eyes and lungs, and others have been just right. Through them all, Addy refuses to quit! Getting to the finish line, and seeing many of the children and young adults we're helping, makes it all worthwhile, and very heartwarming!" Dr. Norenberg and Addy raised $3,800 for the cause thanks to the generous donations of friends, family, and the Briarpatch Pediatrics community. To those who donated or sent their support, thank you for your help, and thank you Dr. Norenberg and Addy for another amazing Best Buddies challenge!
Boston Children's Hospital is Ranked Number One for the Fifth Year
In June of 2018, Boston Children's Hospital was ranked the number one pediatric hospital in the nation for the fifth year in a row according to U.S. News & World Report. This is amazing news for Briarpatch Pediatrics and our patients! As adjunct staff at Children's, our doctors have direct access to top ranked specialists and resources at Boston Children's Hospital - yet another way in which we are able to provide the best quality care for our patients. According to an article written by Mark Gartsbeyn, "Boston Children’s ranked in the top three in every specialty but pulmonology (respiratory medicine), where it placed fourth: The hospital is No. 1 in nephrology (kidney health), neurology and neurosurgery, and orthopedics; it’s second in cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, and gastroenterology and GI surgery; and it’s third in cancer, neonatology (newborn care), and urology." In other words, Boston Children's is doing amazingly well (though, for five year winners, that's hardly surprising)! To read more of Mr. Gartsbeyn's article, click here. Congratulations to Boston Children's Hospital for another year at the top!
Restaurant Week on Nantucket for the Briarpatch Crew
In the first week of June, our hardworking Nantucket team boarded the Wednesday ferry as usual for a day of treating our island patients, and enjoying the much anticipated meals offered during Nantucket's restaurant week. As one of the only pediatric practices on island, the Briarpatch providers, nurses, and front desk staff took a well deserved break from what is usually a fully packed schedule to enjoy their lunch on island, a thank you gift from Dr. Norenberg for their dedication, long days, and tremendous work. Big thanks to Dr. Norenberg for the delicious treat, and to our staff for everything they do!
Only August left to go, its been a busy summer, but a good one for Briarpatch Pediatrics' and our team. We hope this season is happy, healthy, and fun for you and your family; as much as we love to see our patients, fingers crossed that the only appointments they have to come in for are well visits for the rest of the summer! If not, we're here if you need us. Stay safe, and enjoy the sun (and don't forget that sunscreen!)
