Over the past year and a half, Briarpatch Pediatrics has gone through some big changes: our transition from our old medical record system to Epic, losing our valued provider, Katelyn Cotter, and gaining a fabulous new one in Dr. Susan Mahoney. It's been a lot to keep up with, but we are so grateful to our patients who have gracefully weathered these changes with us!

Another huge update to Briarpatch has been the transition to MyChart, our newest online patient portal. Since March of 2018, MyChart has been available to our patients, making it easier than ever to communicate with the practice. MyChart provides simple, effective access to request medication refills, message the providers, request appointments, and so much more, anywhere that is convenient for you through your smartphone or computer. And the cool thing is that if you're having trouble logging in, or locating something on MyChart, our front desk staff is available to step you through it. (So even people who may not feel "computer literate" can easily access their children's health profiles.) Which brings us to the big question...

Do I need a MyChart account, and what do I use it for?

The short answer is yes, parents, guardians, and patients at Briarpatch Pediatrics must have access to MyChart, as it gives the necessary tools needed to manage your/your child's healthcare. You are able to print health forms for school or camp, message providers, request med refills and appointments, send pictures to the nursing staff before bringing in your child for questions on rashes, bumps, bruises, etc, Our staff will message back within twenty-four hours, and for health advice questions, within the same business day. However, bear in mind that MyChart should never be used for medical emergencies.

How do you access your MyChart account for the first time?

You must request access to MyChart through Briarpatch Pediatrics, and may call our office during regular business hours at (508) 833-0269, The front desk staff will set you up with a username and temporary password, and can instruct you if you have specific questions on how to navigate MyChart. We require name, date of birth of account holder, and zip code.

If you choose to be issued an activation code through email, be aware that the code will expire after 90 days, so you must make your account within that window of time. (The sooner the better!)

Parents of patients over thirteen have limited access to information over MyChart, but the front desk is able to set up your child up for an account which he or she may grant access for you to view.

If you lose your password or username, you may also call Briarpatch Pediatrics and we can help you recover it.

How can I print out my/my child's health form after logging into MyChart?

Select the child's name that you wish to print the form for. You will see a small blue envelope at the upper right hand corner of the screen under which there is a drop down menu. Select "Letters and Health Forms," and if your child is up to date with his or her last well check, you should see a document called "Health Form" which you can print, If the health form is not there, feel free to call our office and we will assist you.

Printing health forms through MyChart saves you time and the $10 fee of picking up subsequent health forms in the office.

How do I request a medication refill through MyChart, and how many days should I request in advance?

Med refills can be requested over MyChart by sending a message to clinical staff under the blue envelope at the top right of the page. If your child is over thirteen and you do not see the "Med Refill" option, you may need to send a message directly to clinical staff detailing what you need refilled and to which pharmacy you would like it sent.

Please allow four days for your request to be processed.

Can I see lab and test results on MyChart?

All test results are released to MyChart once the test has a "Final" status on our end. Positive labs are posted within 48 hours, and negative labs within 24 hours. If you have any questions or concerns about posted lab results, you may feel free to call our office where we can put you in touch with a nurse, generally within the day of your call.

Can I pay a bill over MyChart?

Yes, you are able to pay balances over MyChart, prepay copays, and view past made payments under the billing tab. You are also able to set up payment plans for large balances.

Can I update my insurance coverage through MyChart?

You can! After selecting the child's profile that you are updating, click on billing and "add coverage." You are able to adjust your current plan information, or add a new one.

What if I still have questions regarding MyChart?

As the world becomes more and more tech based, we understand that online portals can seem intimidating. MyChart is a safe, effective, and efficient way to manage your/your child's healthcare, and is an integral part of Briarpatch Pediatrics' care of our patients.

If you have a question regarding MyChart, or are struggling to login, please don't hesitate to give us a call! Our office is here to help, and even if there's anything we don't know off the top of our heads, we will find the answers you're looking for.

So yeah, we think MyChart is pretty great, and we hope you do too. If you don't have an account yet, don't wait! Give our office a call, and we'll set you up today, just in time to print out those health forms for summer camp...

Sincerely,

Briarpatch Pediatrics
